Carol Evergreen
"Shade"
Name: Carol Evergreen
Nicknames:Demon Girl, Shadow Girl
Gender: Female
Age: 16
Actor/Actress N/A
Affiliation: Unaffiliated
Personality: Carol is a young woman who is quite shy, skittish, and quiet. She has spent much of her life being sheltered and not around a lot of people, so she doesn't do the greatest around others and tends to keep her eyes downcast and seeming uncertain of approaching people. She easily gets nervous in a crowd or places she's never been to, often trying to shrink away from being in such places and try to find a place she feels she can calm down and collect herself. Unfortunately, Carol is not much of a talker and tends to only exchange few words or phrases around others, especially new people she has yet to meet. But this has also been made worse with people's views of her as nothing but a demon, monster, or "Satan's Spawn" as some would call her due to her appearance.
Unfortunately, between Carol's sheltered life and little contact with the outside world she is rather socially awkward and naive. Despite her quiet, skittish nature she does have a side of her that is curious and holding a great desire to know the world around her far more than she has been able to know, making her inquisitive nature something that can be manipulated and twisted. But Carol has also grown up being considerate, compassionate, and having a strong sense of what she views as right and wrong. Sometimes there may even be a recklessness in this seemingly unassuming, quiet, shy girl who will do what is necessary to help someone around her if she has to. Whether someone views her actions as unnecessary, stupid, or wrong she will dismiss this as she holds strongly to her beliefs and values despite someone trying to use them against her.
With all this, Carol seems like your typical quiet teenager, save for the mutant physiology. Except, Carol's connection to the Darkforce Dimension has also played a part in bringing out a more corrupt, wicked version of Carol that horrifies her. She becomes cold, sadistic, and quick tempered when she taps into the Darkforce and prolonged use causes her to slowly lose herself to the darker side of herself. Gradually, she becomes even more reckless, flirtatious, more outspoken, and brutal to the point she is almost unrecognizable. She has a constant struggle to keep her darker inhibitions in check and has something of a strong will but not enough to keep back a consuming darkness.
Appearance: Due to her Neyaphem heritage, Carol has a demonic-like appearance since she was born. She has red fine fur covering her form with only three fingers and thumb, three front toes slightly longer than a regular's humans with a back toe, and 3'6" long prehensile tail with a spear-like tip. She stands at 5'4" with a lithe, slender build and being rather fit while she has deep green pupil-less eyes, elongated canines, and pointed ears. Her hair is a sandy brown color reaching down to her buttocks besides her bangs, being straight and often in a ponytail. Her clothes also tend to be form fitting but not restricting, usually being tank tops, mid-drifts, skirts with leggings, shorts, loose jeans, and either sandals or certain types of shoes. Though she will occasionally wear formal attire or business casual attire.
As Shade, Carol wears the above suit along with black fingerless gloves, leather brown and black boots, and metal headgear framing her face with a tinted visor for over her eyes.
Family Tree:
Azazel (Father)
Michelle Evergreen (Mother)
Unknown Maternal Grandparents
Several unnamed half siblings
History: Carol is an unfortunate result of her mother, Michelle, being seduced by the demonic mutant Azazel who disguised himself as a handsome young man at the time. Her mother was a mutant who likewise could use the Darkforce Dimension, but in the creation of constructs who caught the eye of Azazel when he was looking for another to impregnate and have further connections on Earth. With being in a small, Italian countryside town Michelle was quite enamored with the stranger who decided to visit for a time. For a short month or so, Azazel courted Carol’s mother, at the time a young woman of nineteen who was seeking some excitement and change from her sleepy life in the small town and ranch life.
Because of this youthful mistake, Azazel succeeded in seducing the woman who soon realized she was pregnant with the man’s child. When she told him, he seemed rather thrilled and eventually revealed his true form, shocking and horrifying Michelle in realizing that she had been used, and quickly left the hotel in which Azazel had stayed. Michelle returned home and confessed to her family what had transpired, shocking her parents but they nevertheless showed concern for her predicament. Scared and worried for what to do next, Michelle spent a long time talking with her parents of what to do about the fetus and eventually it was decided by Michelle she would keep the child. When Carol was born, her birth caused appalment and shock at her demonic appearance but her mother and grandparents ignored this as they loved the child no matter what, already use to a mutant considering her mother was one and Michelle named her Carol with being born on Christmas Day and having a love for Christmas carols.
After that, Carol’s life was relatively sheltered. Her mother worked in town with two jobs as a cashier at a local store and helping manage a local game shop while Carol’s grandparents helped her mother out in helping to raise and watch Carol. For the most part, the young girl didn’t seem aware of the things going on, enjoying being home schooled and working on the ranch, especially with learning to work with and ride horses. This seemed one thing her and her mother especially bonded over since her mother had a knack for riding and often did shows to get extra money aside from her jobs. Seeing how much Carol loved it herself, Michelle decided to take a gamble in teaching her daughter how to do riding events and barrel runs.
While growing up, Carol dwelled into the usual subjects children her age did but also got to study other things that interested her, which she wound up growing an interest in gymnastics, archery, and dancing. But with not really being allowed to accompany her family to certain places in town without cover, Carol was given little choice but to practice at home, making use of the ranch fences, barn, the house, and open range to use as her way of practicing all this. Her mother and grandparents though were always there to keep a close eye on the young mutant girl, making sure she stuck to her studies before extracurricular activities were allowed. But on the few times Carol did slip away on the large ranch, she did from time to time see other children, making an attempt or two to talk with them, although her shyness got the better of her which didn’t help when they ran screaming in terror, calling her “demon girl” whenever they saw her.
Eventually, when she got to her teen years between these encounters and not being able to go into town, Carol became more aware now of why she was so sheltered. Though she was angered by this Carol came to understand her mother’s reasons and had a long talk with her family over the matter. It was decided when she turned sixteen they would try to bring her to public eye. For two anxious years Carol waited, patiently continuing her studies, horse riding, and helping on the ranch until the day her sweet sixteen came and they made a reservation at the local skating rink on Christmas Day. It would be the first time Carol was able to come out in public, and there seemed a mixed reaction of curiosity and unease. But gradually, Carol won over others that day with her rather kind nature and showing no signs of harm, leading to a rather decent birthday.
That was save for the few hostile family there, who grew angered at the continued presence of the mutant, especially one that looked like a child of the devil. The small group that showed great prejudice for Carol’s mother growing up finally boiled over to turning it on both and her grandparents, the group becoming belligerent and threatening violence, causing others to quickly back away with concern for their children. Michelle refused to relent though, pointing out they had done no harm and refused to leave. Tempers flaring, the hateful group began forcing them out rather roughly, triggering distress and rage in Carol to the point it triggered her secondary mutation with her eyes becoming solid black and triggering a concentrated Darkforce energy before sending it off in blasts of shadow mattered concussive blasts, destroying some parts of the rink and killing or injuring a handful of people, three of which were her family.
Left in a confused state when she opened her eyes, everything seemed to go in slow motion as Carol looked around, her form having blood splatter and staring in horror at the mangled forms, better described as swiss cheese or a sight she could never describe. But the most horrific sight was the look of utter shock and distress in her family’s lifeless expressions, the image of which became etched into her mind before she took off. She stopped briefly at the ranch to pack her things, get her bow, and get what money the family had saved before she left her town and Italy altogether. Spending the next few months trekking across Europe until having recently arrived in London, Carol has taken up residence in a boarding house for the time being until she knows what to do next.
Super Powers:
Darkforce Manipulation: Carol's secondary mutant ability aside from her Neyaphem physiology is that she can tap into the energies of the Darkforce Dimension. These energies are nothing but the dark side of light, not necessarily being devoid of it but it often times does prevent the illumination of light energy, seemingly canceling out most of it. Carol's connection to it is strong enough that it takes on a liquid state or dark matter-like cloud state that can make it incredibly difficult to see through or get through. Due to a rather strong connection, Carol has shown to have the following capabilities with this energy:
+Concussive Blasts: Carol is able to fire concentrated forms of Darkforce energy in the form of energy bolts or beams, usually being able to dent most weak metals, rock, glass, brick, and stone.
+Darkforce Weapon Constructs: Carol can manipulate the Darkforce energy into various kinds of melee and distance weapons. These weapons are solid and tend to form into the real thing, being blunt, sharp, or rough depending on the weapon she imagines, normally being the dark matter like state and usually being solid black or semi-transparent when in use. These weapons can range from clubs, arrows, blades, throwing weapons, or even makeshift weapons. Carol just has to be able to imagine the weapon, although she isn't exactly an expert in a vast majority of them.
+Darkforce Volatile Constructs: Carol can also created concentrated spheres of energy in which when thrown or are attached to a surface go off with a grenade-level explosion, leaving sizeable dents and damage. These can either go off when making contact with a surface or stuck to a surface of which she can control the detonation psionically.
+Darkforce Energy Form: Carol's connection to the Darkforce Dimension is powerful enough to the point she can shift her form into a complete Darkforce energy state for little over three hours at a time. When in this state, Carol becomes completely made of darkness that retains her physical appearance but with white eyes and additional physical changes. Being in this form strengthens her powers stated above and the physical changes she has access to in her normal state, also giving her invulnerability to physical attacks and projectiles, to blend into shadows around her, and make use a shadow marionette, allowing her to control the shadows of others and by extension their body as well.
++Darkforce "Wings": When in her energy state or using her Darkforce Manipulation in general, Carol manifested faerie-type wings that are translucent with visible veins and are black in color. These grant her the ability to fly up to roughly a thousand feet and are invulnerable to normal attacks.
++Darkforce Claws: On her fingers and feet, Carol also tends to form solid, sharp, durable black energy claws that also seem to have the Darkforce energy emanating off them in small billowing cloud streams. They are sharp enough to tear through muscle, sinew, stone, and brick and are often used as melee weapons and to climb certain surfaces.
++Darkforce Horns: On her head, Carol manifests darkness energy horns, two on each side with the two front horns curving backward that are a foot long and a second pair that are half a foot and start to curve back as well. She can use these for headbutting or stabbing her opponents if she flies head first at them...
Neyaphem Physiology: As part of the Neyaphem mutant race, Carol inherited their demonic appearance. In fact, she inherited her father’s appearance of the red fine fur, elongated canines, pointed ears, green pupil-less eyes, four fingered hands (three fingers and thumb), three long toes in the front of her foot with a long one in the back, and a prehensile tail. Although it has been hinted that Carol's true Neyaphem appearance has yet to show itself, actually being theorized that her Darkforce Energy form is in fact her true neyaphem state. This has also given her the following capabilities:
+Superhuman Flexibility: Carol's joints, connective tissue, and tendons are far more flexible than a normal human's enabling her to flex and contort her body beyond the natural human limit. This allows her to get into some places some cannot and bend in ways even a contortionist could only dream of.
++Flexible Spine: Carol's spine is also flexible to the point she can crouch comfortable for hours without affecting her posture or damaging anything down her spine in anyway. Sitting in odd ways due to this tends to cause her no visible discomfort.
+Superhuman Agility: Her bodily coordination, balance, and agility are far above the human level with Carol's connective tissue and tendons being twice as limber than an ordinary human, allowing her to perform acrobatic feats most would need years of training to do.
+Superhuman Reflexes: Carol's reaction time is three times greater than a normal human, allowing her to dodge things up close or quickly make a reaction to somethin if she is aware of it.
+Superhuman Stamina: Carol's body produces less fatigue toxins than a normal human, allowing her to go through strenuous or rigorous activities for at longer than a human before her body begins to tire and she becomes impaired from the build of fatigue.
Weaknesses:
+Carol is still very much a human despite her mutant physiology, which means she is still susceptible to everything a human is, from disease to serious to even death.
+Carol’s connection to the Darkforce Dimension is strong but due to it’s recent manifestation she doesn’t have full control over these powers, much less knowing her limitations until she exhausts herself from over using them.
++Her connection to the Darkforce Dimension enables her to also gain a form that leaves her invulnerable to physical punishment but she can still very much be harmed by energy, elements, and telepathic means.
++The longer she uses the power she also starts falling into a darker, more twisted version of her personality that causes her to become devoid of empathy, compassion, and restraint, which means she does a 180 and will become reckless, sadistic, and prone to violent outbursts.
+Carol is one who has had a sheltered life, though she is a quick learned and cunning, she is somewhat naïve of the world and is still trying to adapt to a much larger, bigger world than she’s known.
