It had been a long rough day of training. He managed to get some free time on his time just to enjoy himself. Sam had his black helmet on and costume as well. It felt great that he was able to be out without worrying of SHIELD since this time they finally approved of him going out for the evening. "Friday night and it is as busy as ever in New York City, go figure." Sam pointed out mostly talking to himself. Perhaps that was meant to be that way from time and time again. The city deserved a quiet one every once in awhile and so did the super heroes. But they always had to be on guard no matter what the situation was at hand. You could always expect the unexpected.
he had also done a bit of research on Rider's last request since the last encounter. Apparently, Titan had been a planet or a moon around Saturn thst had been home to the Titans. They were probably a super human group too like Xandar had been before they fell. But Sam still couldn't make heads or tails of the question he had asked.
Going what... light speed to Titan? How far away was Saturn from Earth? Well he guessed at most ot would take the humans here a couple of years. But going under the power of the Nova Force, that could be increased ten fold... So maybe a few hours? But he hoped this wasn't another trick question.
As Sam flew he could see the other super heroes on his hub of his helmet ad they were out and about. There sure were a lot of them and that was fine with him. "So far no super villains, it looks like it is going to be a quiet night." The young Nova said softly as we flew forward through the night. His blue Nova Force followed behind him. With his kind of energy he thought that he'd at least stand out, but from what Rider said, his type of helmet was meant to be stealthy, explaining probably why it was meant to be black in the first place.
He had learned a lot in his first encounter and knowing him this was only the beginning, Rider may come back and test him again but he hoped he might be more prepared...even if he didn't have a straight answer to his question from last time. One thing he did notice as he flew up high, the lights may have blocked out most of the stars, but one thing that didn't get blocked out was the moon. The moon was almost full at this point, but it was tiny from where they were looking at. It looked no bigger than a dime or even a quarter.
"Hm maybe one day I can make it to the moon on my own power, but of course there's SHIELD always going to say no. How is it that we're going to learn anything on our own?" Sam asked as he thought about his other SHIELD agents like Anya and Miguel all of them were still learning, and had their own learning curves since they were gifted with spider heroes. And with that he felt a bit of frustration again as he knew that he was liking SHIELD less and less, but for the sake of his mother and father, he knew he had to stay behind and train.

Rider sat out on his porch drinking a beer. The day had been a disaster. Turns out that his brilliant idea of going into an adult entry program at his local university was not a very good one at all. It was amazing how a guy with the universe's most sophisticated super computer inside his brain could actually completely fail his english and calculus exams, and then massacre the faculty interview afterwards. Maybe the problem was that his heart was just not in it. After facing threats that put sentient life itself at risk, the idea of sitting in classrooms listening to lectures or writing essays to deadlines was just not that compelling. Neither did paying the rest seem like a big deal, but it still needed to be done. He had gotten a job managing a vintage 5-'s malt shop. Not exactly thrilling but it kept the lights on and food in gate fridge. IT also gave him lots of time to think. Mostly about how the Nova Corps was gone, and whether or not he should do anything about that, and the fact his brother was MIA. He took another swig from his beer. At least some things were still rewarding...like an ice cold beer.
He saw the blue streak of Sam's flight trail cut across the night sky and wondered how the kid was doing. Rider was no fan of SHIELD, but I guess some training for Sam was better than nothing. He certainly had a talent for flying and as far as he could tell his heart was in the right place. Richard hoped they would both get a chance to see his father in the near future. Jesse's service records were pretty good, and as far as he could tell he had raised Sam right. It seemed everyone connected with the Corps had a shattered family one way or another. Was the that price they all had to pay? If it was it was too damned high.
For a moment he thought about flying up there and seeing how Sam was doing. But the kid probably didn't get too much time to himself and likely the last thing he wanted was Rider disrupting his solitude. There probably wasn't much privacy living on a giant tin can like the helicarrier. SHIELD could build them big, but it sure was ugly. Nah, it was best he left the kid to his own devices.
Then again, he really wasn't anything good on TV tonight. And he was curious to see how the kid did on his homework. He would drop by just for a few minutes. He hammed on his helmet and took off into the night sky. Worldmind download an intercept course into his mind and Rider followed the heading towards Sam.

Sam had been resting for a bit since he had been flying for some time as he hovered in place. In fact he had recalled at SHIELD they had tried to test to see how fast he could go and he was flat out exhausted from trying something like that. Maybe not ever again unless he really needed to go fly that fast. His helmet quickly picked something up that he had seen before as he turned in the direction to get a better look at what was coming his way. A golden trail just like his own blue streak had been flying pretty close. "Heay how's it going?" He said knowing Rider deserved at least a greeting. Oh boy, did he forget the guy's name again? Well he wasn't the best with remembering some names they often went through one ear and out the other in a matter of minutes.
As he thought about his last encounter with Rider, he had recalled how resistant he had been the first time. He felt horrible for it now the way that he acted but it seemed that all had been forgiven, at least he hoped. "I guess I never got your name last time, but that's understandable." Sam said as he thought about it, he remembered that he wanted to be addressed as "Sir" or "Mister" that was fine with him.
Sam hovered in place for a bit as his Nova Force enveloped him for a bit. Probably for some heroes it might've looked odd seeing it hover around him like that but he quickly dismissed it for one reason or another. It was how his powers worked, and he wouldn't want it replaced for anything or any other type of super power that was out there. "Also I'm doing pretty well with my training. I met a few other agents the other day, both of them had spider powers." He said to referring to Arana and Spider-Man 2099. They had also been his team mates or possible cadets with the same ranks.
Spider-Man 2099 had been only doing it for about a year now, but Arana he wasn't so sure for how long she had started it. But each one of them seemed to be good spirited and they were friendly enough that he considered them to be friends. But he paused for a bit figuring Rider might be there for something else or if he had anything important to tell him he'd listen. Usually there was some importance to this, that he better listen to this Nova, especially if he didn't always listen to SHIELD.

Richard made good time up to Sam's level and greeted him with a smile. He hovered a short distance away.
"So SHEILD let you off the leash again or are you on a super secret mission?" he laughed.
Getting out for a spin like this got his mind off things. The air was good and he wanted to make sure Sam was going okay. SHIELD's training might be useful for the little tactical stuff, but they were not doing any good on the big picture. Not because they didn't want to, but because they didn't know about the big picture. Being a SHIELD agent was like being a private in the foxhole, a very limited view of the world. If Sam wanted to be a Nova Centurian he would have to learn to think like a general. He was pretty young for that, but it there was no time to waste. IF the kid was going to fly around in the uniform, he was making himself a big target with big enemies.
"So what kind of stuff do they have you working on?" he asked.
It was good having Sam around though. Knowing that he was not the last Nova took a bit of a load off of Rider. Even if he decided not to continue in his role, at least he knew the Corps would not come to an end. That needed to carry on. Although it was an open question if it could really be revived considering the low numbers it had dropped to.
"And how did you do on that homework question? Do you have an answer for me?"

Sam also gave Rider a smile, he at least deserved it compared to how he treated him last time. He still felt a bit bad for how he resisted Rider the first few times. That hadn't been nice exactly on his part, but maybe by now he could let bygones be bygones with himself. "SHIELD let me go tonight, I pretty much begged them to let me go on a friday night and seeing that I did so well these last couple of times they didn't have anything wrong by it. Of course they expect me back before it is Saturday." Sam said knowing even SHIELD might've had a curfew up for the younger members that were out.
"The last training session we did I was supposed to go as fast as I could around a training course, they were testing my speed but I think I crashed about half way down the course since I wasn't used to something like that. But they let me take it again and I did better the second time." Sam admitted as he rubbed his shoulder remembering how he felt how sore he had felt that night. Luckily he had pretty much recovered by then, and they did let him try it again, so he'd at least successfully complete it. Who's to say that he wasn't the first one to crash or mess up before? Captain America and other older heroes might've made mistakes when he was still learning...right?
It was true, Sam wasn't a math wizard like some geniuses that were out there, but if he were to be a Nova he might have to actually pay attention to this stuff and learn it. You simply couldn't point a compass in the direction you wanted to go and you'd find it. Not to mention space wasn't a simple play ground and he learned that the last time he went with trying to figure out were things were...it was tough especially if you did have a helmet. But he knew Rider was looking for a question. He had done a lot of research like what Titan was, a moon from Saturn and he tired his best to answer the question, but he wasn't sure if it was correct. "Well, I hope I have at least something for you." Sam said not sounding too confident as he tried to think a way of how to explain it to him the best way he could.
"It turns out after doing a bit of searching on the internet, it looks like Titan is a moon that orbits the ringed planet Saturn. Titan is about 1, 427, 000, 000 kilometers away from the sun...and converting those into AU...Astronomical units it'd be roughly 9 unites...and .00014 light years...is that just me or does that seem really fast to get to Titan like that?" He asked as he rubbed the back of his neck.
Boy did he dislike math, but he didn't want to admit that in front of Rider. He didn't sound too confident in that one.

Rick nodded his head as Sam spoke about the speed test and the course they had set out for him. For Sam, mastering that speed and controlling it would be essential.
"Speed is a big deal for you black-hats" he said. "That is how you are designed to operate. In and out, fast, before anyone knows that you are even there. Given time you will be able to break the speed of light, but don't do that in atmosphere, it will do some serious damage to you...and the planet!"
He listened closely to the answer Sam gave about Titan. Sounded like he had done some of his homework, and had almost gotten to the answer in a round about way. But the effort was there.
"Not a bad start. Travel around our solar system is pretty easy. And fast once you know what you are doing. It takes light about 8 minutes and 20 seconds for light to travel one AU, and it's about eight and a half AU from earth to Saturn, so a light speed flight from earth to Saturn takes about 71 minutes at the speed of light to make that trip. So at 90% of the speed of light you are about 10% slower, so maybe 78-79 minutes for a one way trip..."
Rider looks off in the sky for a moment. Looking up in to space and thinking about all the amazing stuff out there that so few people would ever know about or get to experience.
"Did you know there is a hidden civilization of people who don't die of old age up there, called the Eternals?"
He looked to Sam.
"Got time to go pay them a visit?"

"Me go at light speed? That'd be something to go that fast in the future." Sam said as he thought about it but right now he probably was going anywhere from about 300 miles an hour, which was pretty fast in his opinion. He could probably go faster but that would take a lot out of him. "But I'll keep that in mind, don't do it near any planet that has life, it sounds dangerous." Sam acknowledged knowing to keep this a mental note as he nodded towards Rider.
"So it'd take a little under an hour and a half? That doesn't sound too bad of a travel." Sam said as he listened to Rider. At least he had come prepared with something. Sam had of course struggled with school but it appeared that he needed to take being a Nova very serious. He recalled Rider's warning the other day that there were people out there that would try to kill him. And that may have very well been the reason why his father disappeared. Someone went out to try and kill his father but instead he got kidnapped...this at least explained some of the theory on Jesse, but Jesse himself only knew the whole story behind things here.
Sam almost looked dumb founded as Rider seemed to talk about the Eternals. He had never heard of such a group before...well besides Xandar, Earth, and now Titan. It was apparent that he needed to learn more about astronomy more than ever now if he wanted to go and travel in space...whatever little bit helped right?
"Wait are you saying that you're taking me on another field trip? I'll go as soon as you're ready." He said as the realization hit him pretty hard. He was excited that this rather dull and calm evening was going to have some excitement. SHIELD was already aware that Sam was going to be out for the evening, so he at least didn't have to worry about them hounding after him in the middle of outer space.
"Oh yeah, better not forget the helmet part so I can breathe." Sam added, trying his best to get himself ready for it...at least mentally. It seemed like when you were in space you needed to not only be mentally prepared for it, but also physically as well. The AI quickly put up Sam's glass plate around the helmet around his face as he breathed it gave him a large supply of oxygen that would last him or a long time. But maybe humans could breath on Eternal, right? The young Nova was going to find out sooner or later once they started moving out.
