Anya couldn't recall ever making an attempt to go anywhere except home after school, intending to visit her father for the next week so she could have time away from SHIELD. She was hoping, praying even, that something strange would hold off just for once so she could have some peace and Giberio wouldn't be worrying out of his mind about what she did at SHIELD as a junior agent or as the hero Arana. Things were difficult enough as it is and the last thing she expected was the suddenly blinding light around her and soon finding her feet touching on soft grass, and feeling a rather humid air striking almost immediately.
Once her eyes adjusted, Anya was shocked to find herself in a rather tropical looking jungle, which seemed located in some kind of valley with high rising, steep sides that would be a pain to climb. "Where in the world am I?" Anya couldn't help asking out loud, keeping her red backpack close to her as she half expected something to come lashing out at her but so far it seemed quiet. And quiet usually was a bad thing. 'Got to move, someone has to be here.' Anya thought as she fired a web from her wrist towards a branch, pulling herself upwards and swinging forward, doing this a few times before she noticed another flash of light.
That seemed very similar to what she had gone through just a few minutes ago. Perhaps someone else had been teleported to this strange place? Deciding to take chances, Anya changed direction and launched herself onto a branch, grabbing hold and swinging herself up onto one that could hold her weight, crouching as she peered through some leaves seeing it was someone slightly older than her and appearing to be human. "Hey! You know..." Before Anya could finish her question a voice suddenly boomed around the valley, causing Anya to nearly fall in shock but managing to catch herself before she did glancing up as a voice spoke. "Welcome competitors, to the Contest of Champions! You and several others will be competing for the esteemed title of Contest Champion, to prove who is truly the strongest of them all!" The Gamemaster spoke up causing Anya to see rather confused.
"What exactly is this for?" Anya called but the Gamemaster seemed to be ignoring any questions. "The contest between young spider mistress Arana and cosmic warrior extraordinaire Captain Marvel begins!" And soon the voice was gone causing Anya to growl in frustration flipping off the branch to land behind some thicker underbrush as she swiftly changed into her black and white suit before she stepped out, pulling down her mask and tying back her hair. "Guess we don't have much of a choice huh."

For a moment Mar-vell wondered just what strange place Rick had dumped him in now. But after the momentary disorientation he knew that this was no Rick Jones stunt, rather something much more serious. He studied his surroundings carefully. It was a valley, and based on the flora it looked like earth. The atmosphere was certainly earth like, but he would be damned if he had the faintest clue as to where he was. His cosmic awareness made it clear that there was someone else nearby. Human, young, a girl. He could sense she was nervous, out of her element. He was just as lost, but calm was his stock in trade. He wondered why she was hiding. Perhaps she had detected a threat that he had not yet. He listened as the voice boomed through the valley. Annoyance flooded through him at the suggestion that he was to take part in some contest that he had no interest in. Even if he could not settle the matter now he vowed to find out who was behind this travesty and deal out some justice when the time was right. He had a long memory and this Gamemaster person would find out just how focussed he could be. He turned back to the young woman after she had finished changing and she stepped out of the bush. Nice costume, he thought to himself. She was about 50 yards away. Plenty of places around here for her to run or hide, but with the big valley walls, it would be a tough place for her to escape. He gently lifted off the ground and hovered about 20 feet up. The nega bands on his wrists glowed brightly and he left a reflective star trail behind him as he flew. "Greetings Ms. Corazon." he said loudly. "I am sorry we are making this acquaintance in such poor circumstances. Do you know what this contest is about?"

With getting a better look at her unwilling opponent, Anya couldn’t help letting her jaw drop when realizing the Gamemaster wasn’t kidding. This was the Captain Marvel, having been one of the heroes she had heard much about among others out there. Only problem was he was known to be strong, a difficult and formidable opponent to villains alike which made Anya a little nervous of having to face the veteran hero. He had greater experience and ability than she did, where she only had roughly three years of heroics under her belt he probably had twice that.
No, she couldn’t think like that now. She had to be confident, ready to battle if they decided to go through with this. “I’m surprised you know my name Captain Marvel, but its still a pleasure and honor to meet you.” Anya greeted, giving a quick faint smile before it faded, turning into a frown at their predicament. “I wish it was under far better circumstances since this feels like we’re some part of sick entertainment.” Anya agreed, disgust and annoyance clear in her tone as she glanced back to the sky. She half expected to see spectators or someone watching on the valley tops but so far as she could see no one was there. Perhaps they were being watched from a far different place than here?
Sighing, she turned her gaze back to Mar-vell, trying to figure out strategies almost immediately or whether they should decide one of them should give up. “So do we fight to our hardest and hope for the best or should one of us throw in the towel?” She inquired towards him, shifting her stance to a fighting one, though it was more for preparation than anything. “If we fight, I’ll make sure to give you a decent fight Captain Marvel. But regardless of how this goes, let’s make a promise that whoever advances to the next part of this contest if we make it all the way and meet the psychos behind this we give them a swift kick to the buttocks.” She told him, getting the feeling he wasn’t exactly happy about this arrangement either.
But if this was a contest who else was fighting? Bethany and Sam perhaps? They were two agents of SHIELD and heroes in their own right, which she could suspect they were just as likely candidates as herself. ‘If you two are here, good luck. And if any other agents are I give them my good luck vibes too.’ She thought, hoping and praying none of them were in this.

Mar-Vell was impressed with the young girl's spirit. It was a crazy and challenging situation and she seemed to be bearing up well under what was obvious pressure. When she said she was honoured to meet him he inclined his head politely in gratitude. No matter what the circumstances good manners were always of manner.
"Nice to meet you too Anya." he said with a smile. "I am cosmically aware. I know your name, your mother's name, her mother's name, and your great grandmother's favourite food. The universe keeps no secrets from me."
He was aware of her powers. For a human she was quite formidable. Her intentions were good and she was honourable. He was still puzzled about why so many humans had powers that were related to spiders when they were so different in biology, and so reviled by their very appearance. Perhaps that was the answer. It was the intimidation factor that had value. People were afraid of spiders. To the normal human her appearance would be fearsome. It was a good approach. To be so fearsome to your opponent that they would cower, or not even begin the battle was a good path to victory. However today that past was not open to her.
"I agree we are the wronged parties." he said. "The creature or beings behind this injustice will pay the price."
He quickly studied the terrain around him. He could not detect any threats in the jungle, so the only danger either of them faced was from the other. He felt sorry for the girl, but that would not change his nature.
"I am a Kree warrior." he said matter of factly. "Surrender or throwing in the towel is not in my nature. If you chose to submit I will think no less of you. But I will not yield voluntarily."

"Cosmic awareness? And here I stand with a simple carapace for defense." Anya mused, figuring it wouldn't matter what she said about her powers. If what he said was true than he probabaly already had an idea of what she could do, much less what she was capable of. Indeed, Amya had experience and she was no slouch in combat. Between her training from the Spider Society and SHIELD refining and expanding on those capabilities she obviously had some formal training. Though, it would not compare to Mar-Vell even on a bad day.
But at the same time she too was studying the surroundings, deciding she still could be prepared and ready to move. Cosmically aware or not, she was going to go all out, give Captain Marvel a proper fight rather than just give up. And that was something they both seemed to share which she couldn't help allowing her faint smile to return, this time into a rather broad grin. No all-powerful being was going to break her positive spirit no matter what they wanted.
And with his answer it was decided. "You could be a mutate like me for all I care, Captain, but I won't be leaving this fight unless one of us gets a victory the proper way." And with that declaration, Anya fired two threads of webbing from her wrists, shooting them past Mar-vell to stick to a tree behind him. Giving just enough tension, she soon let her body fly forward feet first, aimed right at striking the man in the chest. Would she come out on top? Very unlikely. But, this would give her a chance to truly test her combat skills and powers full force, rather than hesitating just slightly like she had done with Kaine.

Her aggression is impressive Mar-Vell mused to himself as she shot out her webbing. In his mind it was all happening almost in slow motion. When faced with an overwhelming opponent it took a great deal of courage to charge forward. Attacking in the face of terrible odds? Seemed like something he would do. But it seemed a battle was what was needed, so a battle was what she would get.
She seemed intent on direct physical confrontation. It seemed only fair to give he what she wanted. He turned his body so that his elbow was in front of him and explosively flew forward. From nearly hovering, in an instant he was travelling several times faster than the speed of sound, the sonic boom rippling through the air with a deafening roar. His eyes were focussed in on his target, his elbow making a straight bee-line to her job. His mind was cold and calculating. If the collision was bad enough it could snap her neck, but such was the price of war. At least he knew in this sunny location, if he caused a catastrophic history he could heal it quite quickly. He hoped to get this fight over as quickly as possible, dragging it out would only increase the risks.
Considering their combined speeds the collision would take place in a tiny fraction of a second.

A small second, if even that could mean the end right there and now. And it was these concerns that Anya tried to always take in consideration a strategy or someway to handle situations that could come her way. She was trained by both organizations to make use of every asset at her disposal and she had every intention of making this a challenge for Mar-Vell. And it was that last moment that Anya decided to employ a tactic she often used when it came to a sling shot attack like this, a faint glow coming from her tattoo on her upper arm that formed the durable, sturdy carapace she could summon on a whim.
It was thick and tough, covering most of her form and meant to add power behind the blow. But Anya's plan was far from being as successful as expected. Whether her now armored feet made contact or not was completely lost to the young teen, feeling Captain Marvel's elbow collide right into the lower part of her carapace mask and causing her vision to go black from the force. And it was enough to tear the webbing and sending her flying, breaking through one tree and slamming into another with enough force it stunned her, falling to the ground in a dazed state.
The moment of focus lost, her carapace retracted, and all she saw was stars in her vision. She was only vaguely aware of the pain radiating from her side, a result of a few cracked ribs from the collision. "That...knocked me silly." Anya muttered, trying to stand but her movements were uncoordinated and she could barely stand, grunting from the movement that made her slowly more aware. "Can't give up yet." Anya gritted her teeth, still unable to make heads or tails of what was going on around her but still trying to maintain a strong front.
